Herm's Journey at Moba

Room to improve and make a difference

Herm Schonewille had already worked at several manufacturing companies before joining Moba. In each role, he gained insight into a different aspect of supply chain planning. At Moba, he found what he was looking for: a technically sophisticated and complex company where he can closely monitor and improve processes. “Here, you have the freedom to help build the organization and contribute to its success. You can really make a difference.”

Moba remained on his radar
He knew about Moba through his korfball teammates and because he had gone to school in Barneveld. Manufacturing companies had always appealed to him, especially because of the dynamics within the supply chain. Eight years ago, he had already explored opportunities at Moba, but at the time there was no suitable position available. When he looked around again later, there was an opening that appealed to him.
Moba’s scale was the deciding factor for him. The company is large enough to handle complex supply chain challenges, yet at the same time offers the freedom to implement improvements on his own. The ERP implementation also made the position interesting. “There’s enough challenge and room for growth here to build things up.”

Getting to Know the Entire Supply Chain

After completing his studies in Logistics and Economics at HAN University of Applied Sciences, Herm did his graduation internship at Gazelle. He was able to stay on there and subsequently worked in various roles, ranging from procurement and production planning to long-term and demand planning. He also worked on optimizing an ERP system.
That broad experience confirmed where his interests lie. “I enjoy supply chain the most: you oversee the entire chain, you’re the spider in the web, and you make adjustments where necessary.”
Herm then gained new experience at other manufacturing companies. He discovered just how diverse supply chain can be and how important it is for him to be able to oversee the entire process. At Moba, that broad perspective and his need to take the initiative come together.

Ambition with a Family Feel

His first impression of Moba was immediately positive. Herm recognized the friendly atmosphere of a family-owned business, combined with a great deal of ambition. He noticed that colleagues take ownership of their work and are proud of the company. “Everyone knows their responsibilities and is committed.”
As a result, as a team leader, he can focus primarily on the work itself and on professional development. The good work-life balance also appeals to him. With three young children, working close to home provides stability, while the complexity of Moba ensures there’s plenty of challenge.

From Ad-Hoc Arrangements to Stable Processes

As Team Leader of Planning & Preparation, Herm plays an overarching role. Team members are given the freedom to take on their own responsibilities, while he works with them to identify ways to further improve planning and processes.
One of his main priorities is to better document knowledge and work methods. Many practices have developed organically over the years and exist primarily in the minds of employees. “One of the biggest challenges is bringing structure to our work methods and mutual agreements.”
Herm wants to help Moba become less dependent on individual knowledge and adopt a more process-driven approach. That’s why he and his team are mapping out processes and discussing with colleagues how these can be organized in a smarter, more stable, and more efficient way.

Understand first, then build on that foundation

He’s still learning every day. In the coming years, he wants to focus primarily on ERP implementation and get to know the organization inside and out. “The more experience you have, the more effective you become.”
He appreciates the trust he’s given to set his own course. His colleagues are open to improvement, and he believes they’re all working toward the same goal on the horizon. His first goal, therefore, isn’t the next promotion, but rather to grow professionally and gain a deeper understanding of how the organization works.

“Supply chain is what I enjoy most: you have an overview of the entire chain, you’re the linchpin, and you make adjustments where necessary.”

You can really add something here

For Herm, Moba’s strength lies in the combination of technology, collaboration, and freedom. Virtually the entire, recognizable product line is manufactured in-house, and a relatively small team serves customers all over the world. “That’s something to be proud of.”
His message to future colleagues is clear: “If you enjoy making improvements, you’ll have a blast here.” Anyone who shows initiative and enjoys tackling challenges will find plenty of opportunities at Moba to help build the company, develop themselves, and truly make a difference.
