Marco's journey at Moba

From vocational student to team leader

Marco Roelofsen, now 39 years old, began his journey at Moba in September 2009. His path to Moba was not direct. After completing a vocational degree in Architecture and five years as a thatcher, Marco decided he wanted something different. "I was attracted to technology," he says. Through a private contact at Moba, he was given the opportunity to apply for a job. Within a week, everything was settled and he was able to start training in Mechatronics as a BBL student at Moba.

First impressions and growth

When Marco first met Moba, he was impressed by the professional working environment and the variety of tasks. "The working atmosphere was very good, social, and collegial," he recalls. These positive first impressions were confirmed by the helpfulness of his colleagues, which quickly made him feel part of the team.
Marco started in the packing lanes department, where he worked on egg sorting machines. He learned everything from A to Z: from mechanical work to installing and connecting hardware, and finally testing the packing lanes. "Only when you can build a packing lane from scratch can you test it," he explains. His involvement in the design and setup of the first line production for the new generation Omnia PX packing lanes was a major challenge and a great step forward in his career.

From packing lanes to team leader

After nine years in the packing lanes department, Marco made the switch to the Contiflow/Maxipack department. Here, he spent a year actively working with the products to familiarize himself with them. He then became team leader of this department. In September 2023, he was given responsibility for three additional departments, which means he now manages around twenty people. "Moba offers you opportunities if you want to advance and are committed to doing so," says Marco.

The support Marco received from his team leaders and managers was crucial to his development. "They always listened to my needs and suggested suitable positions," he says. This guidance helped him discover that managing and organizing suits him well.

Challenges and solutions

During his time at Moba, Marco encountered various challenges. One major challenge was convincing people to do things differently or better. "Over time, I've learned to involve the right department at the right time and to come up with good arguments myself," he explains. Another challenge was the transfer of knowledge from older colleagues. "There's a lot of knowledge in the heads of older colleagues. You have to get it out," he says.

Future prospects

Marco sees himself continuing as team leader for a few more years, but is open to leading other departments. "I haven't learned everything there is to learn in this position yet, and I still enjoy it too much!" he says enthusiastically. He appreciates the continuous development within Moba and the new challenges that come his way. For Marco, Moba is a great place to work because of his enthusiastic and committed colleagues, the fun team, and the continuous development of the organization. "A little better every day!" he summarizes.

“Be sure to come in for an interview. We are an organization with lots of opportunities for everyone.”

Appreciation and ambitions

Marco appreciates all the opportunities he has been given to develop into the person he is today within the organization and in his career. "Without the involvement of my immediate colleagues and managers, this would not have been possible. It's a joint effort," he concludes.

Marco's story is an inspiring example of how a career at Moba is not only a professional journey, but also a personal development full of innovation, technology, and collaboration.
